CBCA – Picture Book of the Year 2016

FLIGHT  – Written by Nadia Wheatley and Illustrated by Armin Greder

Congratulations to Nadia Wheatley and Armin Greder  – their book Flight has just been announced as the CBCA Picture Book of the Year 2016.

This is a picture book for a more mature child reader and it would be my  recommendation that it is shared with an adult so that the concepts presented can be discussed – it will definitely provoke very in-depth conversation.

I read a very interesting interview that Nadia did with the ‘CBCA – Reading Time’ that gives a very interesting background into how little pieces of her life all came together in the culmination that is this story. Another interesting fact is the portrayal of two stories – one 2000 years ago, biblically based and one more recently, war based – the integration of both will have you in awe.  I think the interview is a really worthwhile read : http://readingtime.com.au/meet-nadia-wheatley/

The publisher of Flight is ‘Windy Hollow Books’ and there is a brief synopsis of both the author and illustrator here:                                                                                                     http://www.windyhollowbooks.com.au/products/flight
